About Interleaved Learning Pathways
Learn about how Interleaved Learning Pathways can provide the ability to enrol learners in an automated interleaved sequence of series.
An Interleaved Learning Pathway has a simple structure of 2 or more modules where each module contains 1 or more series and is shown with the following example:

Interleaved Learning Pathway Configuration Rules
The following rules apply to an Interleaved Learning Pathway configuration:
- The Interleaved Learning Pathway must have a unique name
- The maximum Concurrent Enrolment value must be specified which can be between 1 and N, where N is the total number of Modules in the pathway
- A value of 1 means that only 1 series enrolment can be active at the same time
- A value of N means that N series enrolments can be active at the same time
- An Interleaved Learning Pathway must contain at least two Modules
- Each Module must have a unique name (within the pathway) and must contain at least one existing Series
- All Series in an Interleaved Learning Pathway must use the duration setting of 'Mastery'. Any series with a Fixed Duration or Set End Date cannot be part of the pathway
- Enrolments in an Interleaved Learning Pathway can be done using Standard Mode (spaced repetition learning) and Competency mode (topic-based questions)
- Any enrolments that require Preview mode will not work
Interleaved Learning Pathway Operating Rules
The following rules apply to an Interleaved Learning Pathway operation:
- Only 1 series enrolment can be active within a Module at the same time
- Multiple series enrolments can exist when the concurrent enrolment value is 2 or greater
- Enrolments in the next series will be available to the Learner on the morning of the next day the Series was Mastered and shown as Pending (Future Start) enrolment status in the Insights and Learner App / Web
- Learners do not receive Series Mastery Certificates when they master each Series
- Learners will only receive a Module Mastery Certificate once all Series in the Module have been mastered
- Learners will only receive the Learning Pathway Certificate of Completion once all Modules have been mastered
⚠️ Learners enrolled in an interleaved pathway will not receive a transcript with any certificate
How does the Interleaved Learning Pathway Enrolment work?
The following example enrolment flow is based on an interleaved learning pathway with 3 modules, each with 3 series and a concurrent enrolment value of 2.

A learner is enrolled once into the Interleaved Learning Pathway and then....
- The system send a pathway enrolment email and will automatically enrol the learner in the first Series of the first Module (e.g., Module-1, Series-1).
- Further enrolments are activated in the next Module based on the pathway concurrent enrolments setting. As the concurrent enrolments value is 2, then two Modules will be active with enrolments at the same time (e.g., Module-1, Series-1 and, Module-2, Series-4). Once the maximum value is reached, no more enrolments are processed until the learner Masters one of the active Series.
- When the learner Masters an active Series (e.g., Series-4), the next Series from the same Module will be chosen (e.g., Module-2, Series-5).
- When the learner Masters another active Series (e.g., Series-1), the next Series from the same Module will be chosen (e.g., Module-1, Series-2).
- As the learner Masters each Series (e.g., Series-5), the next Series from the same Module will be chosen (e.g., Module-2, Series-6).
- As the learner Masters more Series (e.g., Series-2), the next Series from the same Module will be chosen (e.g., Module-1, Series-3).
- This sequence will continue until there are no more Series in that Module. In this case, the Module has been Mastered, the learner will receive a Module Mastery Email and the next inactive Module will be used for enrolments (e.g. Module-3, Series-7).
Note: If Module-1 still had available Series they would not be considered for enrolments, as Module-1 already has an active enrolment. - As the learner Masters more Series (e.g., Series-7), the next Series from the same Module will be chosen (e.g., Module-3, Series-8).
- When the learner Masters the final Series in a Module (e.g., Series-3) if no further inactive Modules are available then only 1 enrolment will be active. A Certificate of Module Mastery is emailed to the Learner.
- As the learner Masters more Series (e.g., Series-8), the next Series from the same Module will be chosen (e.g., Module-3, Series-9).
- When the learner Masters the final Series in the final Module (e.g., Series-9) the Learning Pathway is complete and a Certificate of Learning Pathway Completion is emailed to the Learner.
