How to use Website Resources
Learn how website resources provide links to public or company web sites which can host many types of content
Things to consider when using websites as a Learning Resource:
- Link point - consider where the link takes the learner when opened, e.g.,
- Does the link take learners to the top of the website or directly to the relevant section within the page e.g., a subheading
- Does the link need to highlight text for a specific paragraph within a page (see this article on linking to quotes & text in Chrome to learn more)
- Reputable Source - is the source of the information from a reputable and reliable source
- Website Accessibility - External publicly accessible websites should have no issues but if the website is internal to your organisation, consider if the learner will be able to access on all devices and networks, including personal phones and guest wifi. Do they need to authenticate to gain access e.g. Company SharePoint or Intranet
- Public website with Ads - External publicly accessible websites that show Ads may require a warning to be added to the description. The following example warning can be used;
⚠️ This resource website may contain ads which are not controlled nor endorsed by Forget Me Not or any of it's associates. - Internal Company Websites - Internal restricted company websites such as intranets or SharePoint sites may require a notification added to the description to advise learners that authentication is required to view. The following example warning can be used;
🔒 This resource requires authenticated access to your company website to view. - Links to PDF Document on a Sharepoint Site - Links to a PDF Document on a Sharepoint site are created as website links. The SharePoint link can be created in a few different ways, this depends on which method the link is created
- Copy Link - Anyone in your Organisation - all people in your organisation have access to view the PDF

✅ Recommended link type as all people in your company can access this file
- Copy Link - Anyone in your Organisation - all people in your organisation have access to view the PDF
-
- Copy Link - People with existing Access - all people who already have access to view the PDF
⚠️Not recommended as this requires adding people to the permission of the location - Copy Link - Specific People - only the specified people will have access to view
⚠️Not recommended as this will only work for the specified people - Copy Link - Link Anyone can access - anyone with the link, including people outside of your organisation have access to view
⚠️Not recommended as this will work for anyone outside of your company and may cause internal information to be exposed publicly -
Copy File link from browser - e.g., Open the PDF in SharePoint and copy the link from the browser directly - (see Website Resources) ⚠️Not recommended as any changes to the files name or location will break the link
