Understanding what happens when learners get a question right or wrong

Streaks are part of spaced repetition learning and determine when learners have mastered a question

It's important to understand how streaks work, so you know what happens when learners get a question right and what happens when they get one wrong.

The steaks level determines:

  • The spacing between question attempts. This has an impact on how long it can take to complete a series.
  • The count of the number of times each question is answered correctly (and incorrectly) and is used to determine if a question is mastered when compared against the Series Mastery Level.

Example Scenarios

Meet our learners who will take you through different scenarios which are based around the most common situations that learners experience and they will show you how days off and answering  questions can impact the time to complete a series.

✅ All the example scenarios use an 8 Question Series with Mastery of 3 and 2 Questions Per Day with fixed ordering, so scenarios can be compared for differences

Things to Note

Susie will show you what happens when a learner gets every question right and is available for learning on all days
  • The enrolment invite is always used as the notification for the first questions
  • With no days off, and 2 questions per day, the 8 question set with a mastery of 3 can be completed in just 15 days

Tyler will show you what happens when a learner gets every question wrong on the initial attempt (maybe they thought they knew everything). Tyler then learns from the feedback to complete the series while having no days off learning

  • It's ok to get things wrong in the initial attempts and learn from the feedback as it doesn't add too much time to reach mastery (only 3 extra days when compared to Sussie)
Jayda will show you what happens when a learner gets every question right and has weekends off from learning (default settings)
  • When days off learning are selected (maximum 2) then no questions are presented on those days (default is Saturday and Sunday which is days 6 & 7 in the example)
  • When questions are due on a day off they will be offered, upto to a max of 2x questions per day, on the next learning day (see day 8)
  • It's good to note that having up to 2 days off learning doesn't add too much time to the overall learning
Charli will show you what happens when a learner gets every question wrong on the initial attempt (they tried so hard) and then learns from the feedback to complete the series with weekends off from learning
  • When questions are due on a day off they will be offered, upto to 2x questions per day, on the next learning day unless the max of 2x questions per day is reached (see day 8)
  • Question over the max of 2x questions per day will be pushed out to the next learning day (see day 9 for questions 7 & 8)
  • Having days off doesn't always impact the time to complete the series (see day 14)
Tina will show you what happens when some initial questions are incorrect and later on a few mistakes are made on questions that were previously answered correctly. Tina also has weekends off from learning
  • Having days off learning and getting some question wrong can make question bank up (see day 7 & 8)
  • Initial question that were answered incorrectly can be completed before those that were answered incorrectly in subsequent attempts
  • When getting a question wrong on the final attempt, it resets the streak count back to zero and this has significant impacts the time to complete the question
Brad (we call him grumpy brad), will show you two scenarios:
  • The series enrolment notification (for email invite method) is the only notification a learner gets if they open the series unless they attempt the first round of questions (see Brad #1 day 1)
  • If subsequent questions are ignored then the next notification will only be when the first questions are due again (see Brad #1 day 5)
  • If the series is opened and all questions are ignored (not attempted) then no further notifications are sent to the learner - this is known as the
    ⚠️ engagement danger zone
