Why are items not showing up in search results?

Learn why series, question sets, users or resources are sometimes not showing up in search results

If you are searching for an existing series, question set, users or resource that you know you have previously created and it's not showing up in the search results then there may be a simple reason why.

If the title of the series, question set or resource or the name of a user contains an apostrophe then it may be causing the unexpected search results.

Situation

If you entered the title of the series, question set or resource or the name of a user by pasting the text from Microsoft Word or other similar application and it contains an apostrophe then it's highly likely that the apostrophe is a different type to the one used when typing directly from the console.

Reason

In the world or computers there are different types of apostrophes:

  • Left quote mark ߵ
  • Right quote mark ߴ
  • vertical apostrophe '

Forget Me Not uses the vertical apostrophe when characters are typed into a field, however external applications such as Microsoft Word may use the left or right quote marks.

When text is pasted from Word and saved and then a search is applied by entering the characters, the results will not match as the apostrophe characters have different identifier codes.

Solution

The way to fix the title is to find the item by searching for another part of the title or name that doesn't include an apostrophe or by scrolling down the list, then select Edit and change the left or right quote mark to a vertical apostrophe.
