How to create a new Question Set
Learn how creating a new Question Set provides the ability to author your own questions for use in a Series
This article will help authors to create Question Sets from any existing content using a simple process.
- Enter the Question Set Details.
- Create the Question Set Learning Objectives (Thinking skills level & Objectives).
- Enter the content for each Question (Question Title, Stem, Answers & Feedback).
- Save the Question Set.

Enter Question Set Details
Question Set Details consist of the Set Title, Intended audience, Question set type, number of questions, and deliver order and are all mandatory fields.- Go to the Question Studio and select + Create New
- Enter the Question Set Details for:
- Question Set Title - the name to identify the question set used by authors.
Note: This title is not seen by learners. - Audience - who is the set intended for e.g. employees, managers, sales team, finance team etc
- Needs Addressed - what needs will be addressed by this set e.g. to gain knowledge on finance processes
- Question Set Title - the name to identify the question set used by authors.
- Choose a Question Set type.
- Choose the number of questions in the set - typical values are 8, 12 or 16 based on the Question set type.
Note: additional questions can be added or removed during the editing process where 4 is the minimum and 20 is the maximum - Indicate the question delivery order - unticked indicates a random order which is the default option, which ensures learners get the best experience. If ticked then a fixed order is applied to ensure questions are delivered in the numbered order, but only for the learners' first attempt.After that they are then randomised.
⚠️ The question delivery order may impact the final delivery scenario of the question series, so careful consideration for this setting is required at the time of creating the question set as it can't be changed
Create the Question Set Learning Objectives
Learning objectives should be brief, clear, specific statements of what learners will be able to do at the end of the questions as a result of the activities and learning that has taken place.
Take a look at part 1 of our write simple questions to understand more about Learning Objectives.
- Select the required thinking skill level.
- Adjust the leading statement text to suit the objectives or just use the default provided.
- Create learning objectives by completing the following parts:
- Enter a Pre-verb statement (optional)
- Select a Thinking Skill verb from the list (mandatory)
- Enter a Post-verb statement (mandatory)
- Select New Learning Objective to add more.
- Select Create Question Set to save all entries.

⚠️ Selecting Cancel will clear the changes and return back to the Question Studio
Enter the details for each Question

Go to Question # and select a learning objective that aligns with the question.

Leave unticked if no derived learning objective is required otherwise check the box and then enter the Derived Question Objective (this should be a derivative of the selected learning objective).

Enter the Question Title.

Then create the Question Stem by:

entering a Statement* (describe the scenario).

entering a Prompt* (the actual question to be asked).
- If creating an Advanced question set, select Variant + , then select 2 and enter a statement and prompt for the 2nd question variant
Note: It is recommended to have the same prompt for both variants

Enter text for the required number of keyed responses to represent the correct answer(s) that learners must select, based on the Question Set Type.

Enter text for the required number of distractor items to represent the incorrect answer(s) that learners must not select, based on the Question Set Type.

Enter text for the required number of Correct Feedback items based on the Question Set Type.
Note: If creating an Advanced question set, select Attempt + , then select # and enter text for each of the attempts - Enter text the required number of Incorrect Feedback items based on the Question Set Type.
Note: If creating an Advanced question set, select Attempt + , then select # and enter text for each of the attempts -
When the question is complete, select Save & Go to Question # to continue adding content to the next question.
- Apply Question enhancements to the question as required (refer to the list of Question Enhancements)
- Repeat the steps above until all questions are completed.
- Expand the Question Previewer to see how the content looks on a learner's device.
✅ For text content, use a single-enter to create text on a new line or use double-enter to create a new paragraph
⚠️* Statement and Prompt must have a minimum of 11 characters before the content blocks are counted as complete.
Apply Question Enhancements
Depending on the Question Set Type apply question enhancements based on the following options:
- Add in Media Content Blocks as required, for relevant question parts.
- Attach Learning Resources - select from existing resources from the list or create new resources as required.
✅ When entering text using the editor you can select a word and then apply formatting using the formatting bar.

✅ You can Delete unwanted content blocks, answers or a whole question when not required, using the delete icon ![]()
Save the Question Set
- Once all questions are completed or at any time when creating a Question Set, select Save Question Set to save all changes.
- When all editing is done, select Exit Edit Mode to return to the View Mode.
- Select Question Studio to return to the list of Question Sets.
